1) Visualise. See yourself in your minds eye exactly how you want to look and feel. If your goal is to get huge and ripped then imagine yourself looking this way strolling down the beach getting all the glances from the ladies. This is effective for a few different reasons one important one is that it sends strong messages to your sub conscious mind about how you wish your life to become. In order for this image to become real it begins to change your behaviour on a day to day basis to produce the mental picture you have. It also enhances your motivation and confidence that you will indeed achieve your goal. On a daily basis attempt to do this for at least 10 minutes and you will start to notice the benefits. Your normal behaviour will slowly change almost unnoticed to be behaviour that is going to help you build muscle faster.

Many top sportsmen including the likes of Tiger Woods, David Beckham, Usain Bolt to name only a few use visualisation in their training and believe it has played an important role in their success. So, if you choose not to take my word for it then at least give it a bash because of the results they have achieved!

2) Variation. Employ as much variety in your training as you possibly can. Compound sets are a must have technique to use in your training. This is conducted by performing a regular set for one specific muscle group and then completing another set for the same group of muscles but this time performing a completely different exercise. For example, tricep dips performed straight after benchpressing. This generates a great burn. Other excellent techniques for maximising growth are: supersets, partials, drop sets, giant sets and such like. make use of all of these as often as you can.

3) Pre and post workout muscle building nutrition. About 90 minutes before your workout have a decent sized meal and about 30 minutes prior a very light snack like a piece of fruit or something similar. Immediately after your workout or as soon as possible get a large dose of carbohydrates and protein inside of you. Just before bed and when you get up in the morning are also excellent times to take on calories if you want to build muscle quickly. remember your muscles grow when they are at rest and at night time they need the calories to do this!

4) Each training session should last a maximum of 45 minutes. Working out longer than this triggers the release of the wrong type of hormones for muscle building purposes and will in fact hinder muscle building. In fact workouts of 30 minutes are optimal, this will mean you will finish your workouts with your hormones exactly right for muscle building and you will also not have exhausted your body’s reserves of energy too much.

5) Maintain your focus. Keep your eyes on the goal and prevent your thoughts from wandering or never let yourself become distracted whilst pumping iron. You workout for only a short length of time so train hard and intensely and then leave. Wearing a pair of headphones and keeping a training diary can really help you keep your focus in the gym. This will mean that in every single training session you have realistic goals to try and beat each time.

Those are 5 excellent points to bear in mind when trying to build muscle quickly. Give them a go for a couple of months and watch yourself grow!
