Bruce And Wing Chun Training
Without doubt wing Chun is one if not the most popular Kung Fu style in the world.
Mainly due to the king of kung Fu -the master blaster Bruce Lee. He was the one that brought Kung Fu to the western world, much to the shock of the Kung Fu fraternity in the United States and especially in Hong Kong.
Bruce identified the need to bring the art to the world and show what Chinese boxing can do and also use it as a showcase of his skill. This made him he undisputed ambassador of wing Chun kung Fu. However that was not his main reason for bringing the art to the western worked. It was plainly for selfish reasons.
He wanted students to train with so he could develop himself as a better martial artist. Initially he used his students to test and develop techniques where he could develop. He was more interested in learning and developing techniques and was very reluctant to teach his students anything extra; he was so focused on developing himself.
It was through. This constant repetition of practice that he became aware that for him to progress he needed his students to progress, only then could he grow his skills by training with more experienced martial artists. The stationary wing chun dummy just wasnt enough.
It was only when he decided to share his skills and look deeper to his development where he really excelled. He became obsessed with improving and he broke through the limit of physical and spiritual pre conceptions. It was at a time where he was seriously injured almost paralyzed from a back injury, that he began a deep mediation on his fighting prowess. He wrote the legendary book The art of Jeet kune do.It was a diary of is inner most thoughts. What he saw where the limits of wing chun training how the philosophy of being formless like water, frees you from your box of compliance and become a free thinking free spirited martial artist.
It may have been ironic its was at a time he was incapacitated…… Being paralyzed on his back where his body had betrayed him and kept him motionless that his mind spring into action and showed its true strength in understanding and distilling the pure essence of being martial artists. As they say it at your most stillness that he most growth happens.
