How To Make Deodorant Using Baking Soda
Making deodorant at home isn’t a complicated endeavor. Why would anyone desire to make deodorant? Because utilizing homemade deodorant helps you avoid aluminum toxicity.
Just about all commercial antiperspirant and deodorant products contain some kind of aluminum. This ingredient is utilized because it helps block the pores and neutralize odor. However, once it’s in the body, aluminum is known as a neurotoxin (brain poison) that has been linked to breast cancer, Alzheimer’s disease as well as other degenerative diseases.
Crystal deodorant stones are an alternative retail product considered to be safer to combat personal body odor. These contain a different ingredient referred to as potassium alum or potassium aluminum sulfate. A naturally occurring salt, these molecules are thought to be too big to pass all the way through the body’s skin layer. Cancer patients are often told to utilize these instead of products formulated with aluminum.
There is, however, an even healthier alternative than this. For a few cents, you can actually make your own deodorant from items you likely have already got within your cupboard. Even if you aren’t in possession of every one of the ingredients on hand, you’ll need such modest quantities, that it’s REALLY affordable to purchase them. Another advantage of this easy recipe is that you will be steering clear of aluminum.
Assemble the following: four Tbsp Arm & Hammer baking soda (doesn’t have aluminum), 4 Tablespoons of arrowroot powder, a bit less than a half cup of Coconut oil, a couple of Tablespoons of beeswax beads and 10 drops of your preference of essential oil (optional).
Note: Coconut oil will help fight odor causing bacteria while adding nourishment to and moisturizing your skin. Essential oils help get rid of odors also, but be sure to select oils which have not been manufactured by harsh chemical extraction because this may possibly irritate the skin. Tea tree oil, lavender, frankincense, and citrus oils all have properties that can help eliminate odors.
Instructions:
1. Gently warm the coconut oil and beeswax to a liquid state.
2. With a fork, blend the arrowroot powder and baking soda.
3. Gradually add the baking soda & arrowroot powder to the coconut oil and wax, working it together with a fork till thoroughly blended.
A firm paste will form that’s comparable to the texture of retailed deodorant. As it cools, the paste will continue to solidify. More arrowroot may be put in if it seems too wet or slushy. Beeswax helps keep the paste from melting in warmer conditions. Should it become cold and too firm, place the container inside a pocket to warm for a few minutes prior to use.
This can be stored in a lidded wide mouthed jar. I use those located in the ‘travel container’ area of many pharmacies. This permits each member of the family to have his own jar.
Yielding about one cup, this recipe (with daily use) may last a single person several months.
