Krav Maga – A Highly Effective Self Defence Technique

Nowadays when we talk about self defence we really need to talk about Krav Maga, although the first things that we think about are kick boxing and boxing. The problem is that we have the main ideas about martial arts from what we notice in different movies. There are many styles that are learned with the purpose of aiding in self defence like judo, kung fu or karate. Krav Maga is one self defence forms that is really special and has Israel origins. Unfortunately there are many that are not aware of how efficient this art is in self defence. Contrary to what you might believe, Krav Maga is among the most deadly types of hand to hand combat and is currently taught in many army academies around the world, especially when talking about commando training. This is a series of techniques that first appeared in the thirties but was largely modified and transformed in what we see today.

Krav Maga Technique Types

Krav maga involves many wrestling and grappling like techniques and will feature an accent that is put on highly violent counter attacks and regular attacks. You will learn to strike only in key points and practitioners can actually develop their own style of weaving and bobbing.

We have different punches types like palm heel strike, straight punch, vertical elbow strikes, horizontal elbow strikes and throat strikes. Then we would also learn how to use outside and inside chops in a combination with eye strikes and hammer fists. Most of the punching technikes learned in krav maga will be learned at yellow belt levels and are the basis of the whole style. Only after you can use them properly you will be given a chance to getter a better rating.

Now talking about kicks, there are different krav maga techniques that can be learned. This is also true for blocking. The basic kicks that you will first learn are round kicks, groin kicks, switch kicks, heel kicks, uppercut back kicks, back kicks and different knee strikes. There are also head strikes that are taught but you will need to get to a green belt level in order to learn them. Blocking techniques are highly interesting and designed for self defence.

Krav Maga will also teach you how to fight against knifes and guns and will teach students to use different weapons in order to protect themselves. All techniques are simple and focused on ending the fight as soon as possible by hitting key points.

Keep in mind that you do not need a very powerful body whenever practicing any martial art but it is always recommended to keep training constantly. You will thus gain an advantage over any adversary and this is highly important, especially when faced with situations where your life is threatened.
