Krav Maga Fighting Art For Those Short Of Time
The Krav Maga fighting system was created in the 1930’s. It has established itself as the Israeli fighting art – and a good one at that! There are many aspects of Krav Maga that make it unique. One of the most important things that makes it stand out is that the main focus is teaching you as quickly and efficiently as possible how to protect and defend yourself.
How is Krav Maga different from other martial arts
For a start, Krav Maga is not really a Martial Art in the pure sense, but it is a Fighting Art. Even though various martial arts can be good for fighting, unfortunately it usually takes quite a while to be a proficient fighter.
You have probably realized that most martial arts such as Karate teach form. And the forms are practiced until they become second nature. At this point the martial artist may be able to defend themselves in a combat situation. This will be most likely if the art is more fighting orientated or more practical.
The point is that the forms themselves are not always so realistic from a fighting perspective.
This is where Krav Maga training techniques differs. For starters Krav Maga does not really have any forms that have to be learnt – techniques yes. It is concerned with thoroughly learning the basic techniques – how to correctly punch & kick, grapple & throw and so on – and applying them one-on-one basis with a practice partner.
It has been observed that in this way, Krava Maga is much closer to Japanese Ju Jitsu than it is to Karate or Kung Fu. In fact Krava Maga has often been called the Israeli Jiu Jitsu or just Krav Maga Ju Jitsu
When Krav Maga was first created, it was designed to be taught quickly because those doing the teaching and those who needed the training had very little time to learn! I have personally learnt from krav maga training videos and I know people who have learnt from a krav maga book. Essentially, so long as you have a practice partner then you should have no problem learning this modern and effective fighting system.
Because Krav Maga was designed in this very efficient way, it can simply be learnt very quickly. Which nowadays is a great benefit.
