Powerblock Personal Dumbbell Vs. XVest Turbobells – Is One Better?

The Powerblock personal dumbbell system is quickly becoming one of the most popular options on the market, but there is definitely some competition to be found out there. The XVest Turbobells may not ring a bell for some people, but they are potentially one set of adjustable dumbbells that could rival the Powerblock personal dumbbell in quality as well as functionality.

When you look at a Powerblock personal dumbbell there is no mistaking it for any other type of adjustable dumbbell. It has the same compact square design that the brand has become recognizable for. The compact and square design makes the weights feel more secure, although some users may find that placing their hands in the four little weight columns is somewhat awkward.

The Powerblock personal dumbbell set allows the user to adjust their weights up to a total of 50 pounds.  This can be done in 2 and 1/2 pound increments.  The weights start off at 2 and 1/2 pounds. Compare that to most other systems that only move by three or five pound increments, and you can already begin to see the appeal of the Powerblock personal dumbbell.

The locking mechanism to secure the chosen weight plates is a pin style very similar to larger weight machines you may have used at the gym.

XVest Turbobells have a look that is quite unusual and one of a kind. Instead of the popular turn dial or a pin style of adjusting the weights, there is a little switch on the weights that you flip based on the amount of weight you would like to work out with.

Something else unique about this dumbbell is its handle, which has two flat sides to prevent the dumbbell from rolling and is covered with rubber to give an excellent grip. There will be no issues gripping these dumbbells and keeping them solidly in your hands.

The XVest Turbobells begin at just 5 pounds and go all the way up to 60 pounds. It moves in 2.5 pound increments just like the Powerblock personal dumbbell set, but gives an extra 10 pounds on each arm.

There is some question as to whether or not the XVest Turbobells personal weight system will be as hardy at the Powerblock, but that remains to be seen.

The Powerblock is a slightly higher quality dumbbell, but both personal dumbbell systems are excellent choices.
