Prioritization Is The Foundation Of Planning
There are only twenty-four hours in a day and in order to get everything you want done in a purposeful way, you need to plan and prioritize your time. PRIORITIZE i.e. figure out what is the IMPORTANT things that need to be done at that time in order to acheive your goals..
Once you have your life prioritized, you need to make goals which will get things done; plan. This is especially important if you are engaged in martial arts training, but can also be applied to daily life. Making a list of everything you want to get done in a day helps; once you get something done you get to check it off and it’s like a small cheers for yourself. Plan your day out and set up a schedule for yourself. Separate what is PRESSING (time issue) vs. what is IMPORTANT (value issue)
No matter which martial arts you’re training, whether it’s Brazilian jiu jitsu, or muay thai, you need to make a regimented workout schedule. If you’re serious about your training you need time to attend classes and do strengthening workouts. You need to decide how important is training is to you and decide on how often you are able to do so in a given week on top of your regular work schedule. The balance depends on you and your life. With working everyday and training multiple days at my martial arts school in Maryland, I find myself very mindful of how much rest I am getting. Quality rest and relaxation is very important and needs to be prioritized into your schedule.
You need to be aware that with work, hard training, and serious workouts you can easily burn yourself out if you’re not getting the proper amount of rest. In order to successfully manage your busy life, you need to dedicate time to planning and prioritizing. Being on a schedule and having clear goals in mind will get you there. The right balance of everything depends on you; how much value do you want to place on each part of your life?
