Soccer Practice Games: Discover Game Progression
If you are like me, you will probably have no difficulty in understanding the significance of soccer practice games as compared to drills. Initially, the games must focus on helping the kids acquire the skills and improving their movement with the ball. However, as they progress with their soccer training, there are a few things that you must observe.
As has been discussed earlier, it is a great idea to divide the players into groups so that they can enjoy the game as well as develop their own styles. First and foremost, the kids must get the freedom to decide on various issues concerning them and this is possible only when the size of the group is small.
As a result of this, the kids will find it easy to roam around in the field when space is more; get in contact with the ball more frequently, and they’ll be answerable for their choices because of few members in the group.
On the other hand, make sure you initiate changes as soon as the players get comfortable playing in small groups and are improving. You should now introduce progressions in soccer practice games. What this means is you tend to make the rules of the game a little more stringent, play games in larger fields, and increase the size of the group. It’s time when team’s overall objectives should also be catered to together with player’s individual development by bringing in a more elaborate strategy.
Pay special attention to what I mention here. Many coaches go wrong when they teach too many things too soon to their kids in the anticipation of preparing them well in advance. You need to understand that it may prove dangerous in the long run. Just like soccer drills, you cannot mechanize the process. It must progress in a natural way slowly.
The objectives may not be met if you rush with things, make a lot of rules, and expose kids to a lot of knowledge soon enough. This causes problems in their natural learning and growth.
When kids progress from smaller groups to larger ones, they should inculcate team spirit and understand the objectives behind the games. It is vital to understand this change from developing your own skills to using these skills to make the team win.
At this stage, along with games, it also becomes important to hold regular discussions and team meetings. Understand that the players have now matured themselves in the game. Therefore, it is not right to underestimate their skills in soccer exercises.
When you invite them to share their views, they feel good about it and become more responsible.
The games should now challenge their thoughts about how to win matches. When they start thinking like team players while playing games, you would have done your job well.
Your next step! To take what you’ve just learned and implement in your plan. Soccer practice games make for a valuable tool in soccer training and you must create them in a way so that they help the kids make natural progress. sBecome a part of our youth soccer coaching community to learn more about various games and strategies that go with it.
