By Bruce Lee Workouts On August 23, 2010 NO COMMENTS

So you’ve decided you want to do a martial art, but don’t know which one to do, lets face it, there are loads to choose from, providing you are lucky enough to live in the right area.

Not something I really had when I was growing up unfortunately, however there does seem to have been a growth in clubs in recent years, and also in styles followed. At that time karate and judo was all that was really known about to any degree, and all I had in my area was karate and it wasn’t for me, but then how do you know if it is or isn’t for you?

A very good question, to my mind you need to determine why you want to do a martial art in the first place. There are many reasons people have – confidence boost, self-defence, fitness, flexibility, competition etc. All perfectly valid reasons, but

Is The Coveted Black Belt The Ultimate Goal?

By Bruce Lee Workouts On August 11, 2010 NO COMMENTS

I’ve seen it so many times that people go into the arts with one thing on their mind, how long will it be until I get my black belt. As if that’s the only reason to do the martial arts is to gain your black belt. I’ve also seen clubs and instructors do things like change their name to a black belt academy, advertise ‘gain your black belt in a year, heck, I belonged to one that did!

Personally I don’t agree with this approach, don’t take this the wrong way achieving your Black Belt is huge, it’s a massive personal achievement. Even that is not totally correct, it’s not just a big achievement for you the student, if your instructor has been working with you closely for those years it takes and has an interest in your development then it is also a big achievement for them. Some of the proudest

What Is Your Wing Chun Training Routine?

By Bruce Lee Workouts On August 6, 2010 NO COMMENTS

I have been getting a lot if questions about how often you should train or go to your wing chun training classes.  What is the right amount?  Well it all depends on your circumstances.  As a rule of thumb if you can make 2-3 classes a week that should be ok.  To some that may not be practical.  I know when I started I was a student and had plenty of time but was a bit short of money.Costs can add up even before you begin your class.  However the  thing you must realize is that your kung fu training does not end when you finish your class. You may only manage minimal training as life gets in the way. Developing your home training strategies is important.

It only needs to take about half an hour or 45 minutes whatever you can spare.  I would suggest that you start out with a few stretches

Historic Wing Chun Training

By Bruce Lee Workouts On July 28, 2010 NO COMMENTS

Today I was at a martial arts shop that had a great chat all things martial arts.  I remember early on in my wing chun training that I would go there and marvel at the weapons, the training tools like the punching pads and the wing chun wooden dummy.   We where talking about Ip Man 2 the movie about the legendary wing chun grandmaster.  Without doubt the most influential man in the last century when it comes to wing chun. When he opened the doors in to his school on Hong Kong to his students he set the path that  would lead his students to eventually take it to the world.  Most notably of these students was Bruce Lee.  But there where others like William Cheung and Wong Shong Leung.

We also got talking that previous this moment traditional wing chun or any kung fu training was a practice that was taught under

Commercial Construction Juegos 3d Commercial Property | How Traditional Martial Arts Discriminate Against Middle Aged Men & Women – Street Fighting Moves

By Bruce Lee Workouts On July 25, 2010 NO COMMENTS

commercial construction Walk into any traditional martial arts dojo, and just observe. Notice how many middle-aged men and women that you see there over the age of 50. I would dare say very few. Have you ever asked yourself why? If you say that martial arts is only for the very young, then how do you account for the fact that most of the teachers who consider themselves as masters are in their 50′s and 60′s?  (By the way, to reach your 50′s and 60′s in the mastery of a martial art usually means that you started maybe as a teenager and because you are a teacher, you get to continue to practice and maintain your skill level by practicing hours each day. The average everyday person has a life and families and cannot devote every waking hour to the perfection of a fighting art.)

Why Wing Chun Training Rocks

By Bruce Lee Workouts On July 23, 2010 NO COMMENTS

wing chun training

Here are a few reasons why I thing Wing Chun training Rocks,,

Entries…  What the…. Entries are also known s bridging the gap between you and your opposition.  In layman’s terms (or my terms) it is entering the exchange with your opponents while causing maximum damage and minimal harm to your self.  Think about it how do you breach your opponent’s defences to execute your attack.  In your wing chun training you will come up with a number of techniques to do this.  Preferably without walking into a punch or a kick.  The aim is to deflect these attacks and effect your own.  I cannot emphasise the importance of this techniques in your training.  Usually in class you are with a static partner and defences and attacks are taught in a choreographed manner.  Training in these entries demands a more dynamic a realistic approach almost to the point of sparring
