Water Aerobics – One Of The Safest Ways To Health And Fitness

Water aerobics is considered one of the safest ways to keep you fit and in shape. Here, exercises are carried out in a swimming pool. While you are immersed in water that is chest deep, a qualified instructor will carry out the leads. Water aerobics classes run for about 45mins, or usually no more than an hour. 

The biggest advantage of water aerobics is that it does not cause as much strain on ones joints and muscles as does any other exercise. This is because, you get a lot of support from the water, in fact water will support about 90% of a persons bodyweight. This enables greater muscular endurance due to the strength and flexibility given by the resistance from the water. Like other forms of aerobics, water aerobics helps to tones your body and reduces blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure levels. It also helps you lose a lot of weight and is therefore ideal for those who are overweight. The stresses and strains of normal exercise are not valid here with the support you get from the water it makes it more tolerable for a bigger age group, along with feeling less tired and fewer aches and pains at the end of a session. Water aerobics is also ideal for pregnant others and the elderly. If you belong to the last two groups, remember to check with your physician before you enroll yourself in aerobics classes as it may pose some risks to your condition.

As in formal aerobics, in water aerobics too the session begins with a warm up routine. Checkwith your instructor whether you would need particular equipment for your water aerobics class. The usual requirements are your swimware, water cap and water aerobics shoes. However, if your routine would include deep water or under water exercises, you may require additional equipment such as swimming goggles.

There’s no age limit for water aerobics and anyone could belong to the three different levels, beginner, intermediate or expert depending on their capability.. It is an ideal form of exercise to try out during the summer without sweating too much while at the same time relaxing and reducing stress.

It is advisable not to practice water aerobic movements at home even if you own a swimming pool. This means you would have to find yourself a good class, ensuring you find one with a reasonable fee pool membership often costs a large sum of money. Do remember to take a good shower after your class in order to prevent any infections from occurring due to the strong chemicals present in the water!
