Why Wing Chun Training Rocks
Here are a few reasons why I thing Wing Chun training Rocks,,
Entries… What the…. Entries are also known s bridging the gap between you and your opposition. In layman’s terms (or my terms) it is entering the exchange with your opponents while causing maximum damage and minimal harm to your self. Think about it how do you breach your opponent’s defences to execute your attack. In your wing chun training you will come up with a number of techniques to do this. Preferably without walking into a punch or a kick. The aim is to deflect these attacks and effect your own. I cannot emphasise the importance of this techniques in your training. Usually in class you are with a static partner and defences and attacks are taught in a choreographed manner. Training in these entries demands a more dynamic a realistic approach almost to the point of sparring where it can get truly random. Learning these where instrumental to me personally in greatly enhancing my confidence in wing chun as a system and my own abilities. This also assist with practice on the wing chun Dummy.
Next up is Ch sao. I believe this is the ace in the whole of wing chun training system. It is also known as sticky hands and teaches how to combat your opponents by training on the sensitivity of touch rather than defending your opponents attacks by sight (indeed the hand is quicker than the eye) The premise is once you have physical contact with your opponent you have an idea of their positioning. Ideally in a confrontation the wing chun practitioner is at their most effective when they are in contact with their opponents -especially if you are in contact with the opponents arm at the elbow or wrists. That way you know where their fists are and can deflect the attacks as long as you stick to them.chi sao is not really sparring it is a training exercise. It is a training exercise to emphasize and teach the touch and feel of your opponent to manipulate their strength and exploit their weaknesses. The goal is to defeat your opponents defences by using forward energy while defending your own.You must maintain the equilibrium if energy with your opponents. If you are too forceful driving your intention forward your opponent can use this force against you –take your balance and win, however if you are too weak they can break through your defenses, It al happens in a split second. Your challenge is not only to match your opponent’s equilibrium but also to disrupt it and create opening for your attacks while defending against your opponents how is trying to do the same.
It has more strategy and deviousness that the TV show Survivor but invaluable and so much fun
