You Can Gain Muscle Without Weights
It is possible to build muscle without using weights or going to a gym. While it is true the fastest way to gain muscle is using weights, it is not an absolute must. There are simple exercises you can do to beef up. In order to build muscle you have to stress it. By using the weight of your body alone you can build up your muscles.
Push ups build arms, shoulders and chest muscles and will help you gain muscle without using weights. Put some weight on your back to increase the difficulty or do a one arm push up. Make sure you perform a full range of motion. Extend your arms fully and touch your nose to the floor.
Pull ups will build the muscles in your arms and back. Use a doorway chinbar or use the equipment at a local park or school yard. Grab the bar and let your body hang to get a good stretch. Get as many nice slow reps in as possible. Switch between underhand and overhand grips. You can also do a parallel grip if you have access to parallel/monkey bars.
To build your leg muscles and glutes, do squats. Put your hands behind your head and slowly squat. If necessary use a table or counter for balance. On the way up squeeze your glutes all the way.
Another tip to build muscle is to use isometrics. Tense the muscles you were just working on right after you finish a set. Hold for a count of 10. According to Arnold this will give you a very chiseled look. To switch things up, you can do the isometrics first and then do your reps. This will bring a whole new level to your bodybuilding.
You can also tense your muscles while you’re doing your reps to get even more results. While doing push ups flex your biceps, then triceps. After you get good at it, add your shoulders, pecs and forearms. With the squat flex your thighs and glutes, then add hips and calves. It’s a bit difficult at first to coordinate but the results will be worth it.
